| What is LaserVault Backup? |

LaserVault Backup is a Disk-to-disk (D2D) backup system for IBM midrange computers (AS/400, iSeries, i5) with features similar to a virtual tape library, that runs on Windows XP, 2000, or 2003 server, and provides backup and restore functions to the iSeries host.
Does LaserVault Backup include Hardware? No, it consists of software for the iSeries and software for the PC. You can use whatever hardware you prefer. We highly recommend the data duplication boxes from Data Domain. Click here for more information.
Does it need special connection to the iSeries Host? LaserVault Backup connects through TCP/IP. Most users will connect with an Ethernet card to the host, which will already have an ethernet connection.
Can I try it before I buy it? Yes, you can download it at http://www.laservaultbackup.com You can install it on any Windows PC running XP, 2000, or 2003.
Is it faster than tape? Users have reported slashing their backup times by a factor of four. Your results will vary depending on your host and TCP/IP connection speed. Try it yourself and see!
Do I need to use BRMS (Backup Recovery & Media Services)? No, LaserVault Backup uses simple SAVLIBLV and RSTLIBLV commands, making it similar to your current backup.
Is it reliable? An email confirming all the libraries and objects is sent to your nominated address confirming all the required processing has occurred.
